Members Looking for Volunteers! Can You Make a Difference?
Our volunteers support and enable people with a physical disability to take up, or return to, a hobby, interest, sporting activity or learning opportunity which they cannot do without some help or support. This support is mainly about giving confidence, understanding and emotional support to bring colour to our members’ lives. Contact us to find out more (contact details at the bottom of the page).
Help work wonders with wood!
We have a man in his mid 50’s who suffered a severe stroke a couple of years ago. This has left him unable to use his left hand.
He is looking for a volunteer to help him with woodworking. He particularly wants to make coat racks and walking sticks.
The volunteer does not need to be a qualified woodworker. We are looking for an enthusiast rather than a professional. Knowledge of how to use a band saw and how to set up and use a router would therefore be useful but not imperative.
We hope that a volunteer could offer to help once a week, preferably on Monday afternoon or Thursday morning, but this is negotiable.
Could you be a Checkmate?
This man who suffered a brain injury some years ago is looking for a volunteer to play chess with him at home. He plays slowly so patience is required. He also likes playing scrabble.
He has been waiting for a suitable volunteer for quite a while. Are you the person he would like to play chess with?
Fancy geo-caching and/or do you like building with Lego?
One of our physically disabled members is looking for a person with a car to go geo-caching with once a month. If you do not know anything about it she will be happy to introduce you into the delights of this hobby. If you are already a geocacher then you will have a lot in common!
If the weather is miserable maybe you would like to stay indoors and build lego models together instead? She is a member of the adult lego club and would love to meet a fellow enthusiast!
Despite being in constant pain, she is great fun to be with and very enthusiastic about both hobbies. This opportunity would suit a volunteer who is happy to be either outside or indoors.
